- Remove doors, drawers and hardware from base of cabinets (use painters tape to number your doors/drawers so you do not lose track of them during reinstallation)
- In your garage (living room) I would put down 2×4โs on the ground and lay out your cabinet doors/drawers on them
- Lightly sand all cabinet frame work, doors and drawers with a sanding sponge:ย https://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/products/3m-pro-grade-precision-faster-sanding-block-sponge
- Clean all doors, drawers and frame work
- Apply your first coat of OIL based primer:ย https://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/products/interiorexterior-fast-drying-alkyd-primer
- I would use a combination of a brush and a specialty Mohair Nap (this is important since you are not spraying):ย https://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/products/contractor-series-mohair-mini-rollers
- After all sides are coated and dried, you will have to lightly sand again, clean dust and apply painters caulk to all gaps
- Then you will apply your first top coat to the framework, doors and drawers using your brush and specialty nap:ย https://www.sherwin-williams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&urlLangId=-1&productId=91062&urlRequestType=Base&langId=-1&catalogId=11051
- Once all sides are coated and dried you will lightly sand and clean again
- Then it is time to apply your final top coat using the same product
- Once dry, it is time to reinstall your doors and drawers using the number system you created
- It is very common after reinstallation of doors that the framework/doors get dinged during the install.ย When you do touchups, make sure you do small amounts of paint and match how you applied the paint originally to that particular surface.ย If brushed, use a brush and if rolled then roll it with a small amount of paint on it.
