Wrapping Your Wood Versus Painting

Home Improvement Tips in Yorktown

Have you ever walked around the exterior of your home and looked at your wood trim and saw the paint was peeling? If you have, we have two options that will work great for you. As the leading painting and home improvement contractor in Yorktown and Williamsburg, Virginia we can give you multiple options that will fit your budget and house goals.  First, let’s go over your two options.

Option 1: Painting of your wood trim

Option 2: Using PVC coated aluminum to wrap your wood trim.  This is a slow process of bending aluminum over the wood to prevent moisture from contacting the wood.

The main benefit of wrapping your wood is you do not have to paint your wood again.  The biggest negative is the cost of aluminum wrap.  It typically costs 3-4x the cost of painting.  For example, if your paint project cost $4000 you could expect to pay $12,000-$16000 for the wrapping job.  If it is that big of a cost difference, why would you wrap your trim? The main reason is to not have to hire a contractor paint your home every 4-6 years and also long term it could save you money.  If you are going to sell your house within 7 years we always recommend painting, but if you think you will be in your house longer than 7 years we need to talk about wrapping.  If you have any questions about exterior painting or wood trim wrapping please let us know.
